Dr. Adolf Peter International Of Counsel
In my capacity as Associate Professor at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law (SHUPL) both my teaching and research focus is on the implementation, control and enforcement of ESG standards in international supply chains, corporate governance, international commercial arbitration and EU law.
I am Certified Supervisory Expert, and a selection panel established by the European Commission found me suitable for appointment for the position of arbitrator and trade and sustainable development expert (TSD Expert) in bilateral disputes under the EU’s trade agreements with third countries.
I hold two PhD and two master degrees in Law and Religious Science, a master degree in Applied (Business) Ethics and an LL.M. degree in South East European Law and European Integration (Karl-Franzens University of Graz, Austria).
My research has resulted in numerous publications relating to international commercial arbitration and ESG (e.g. extensive articles published in the German Arbitration Journal, SchiedsVZ, CIArb’s International Journal of Arbitration, Mediation and Dispute Management, the Asian International Arbitration Journal and the Journal for the Law of Sustainable Development, Nachhaltigkeitsrecht). In February 2021, Springer Singapore published my book “CSR and Codes of Business Ethics in the USA, Austria (EU) and China and their Enforcement in International Supply Chain Arbitrations” (ISBN: 978-981-33-6072-3).
I am a regular speaker in international conferences and seminars organized by international institutions, such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). I was in charge of organizing the “SHUPL International Arbitration Conference – International Multi-Party, Multi-Contract and Supply Chain Arbitrations”.
I am listed as arbitrator in 10 international arbitration institutions, such as the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC), the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC), the Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC), the Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC Reserve Panel), etc.
I am a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb), a Senior Fellow of the Austrian-Chinese Legal Society (Vienna) and the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR). Moreover, I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), the European Chinese Arbitrators Association (ECAA), the Austrian Arbitration Association (ArbAut) and the Legal & Compliance Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai.
