Rogelio Cruz Vernet earned his Law Degree from La Salle University in in 1994 and is admitted to practice law in Mexico. He also holds a Diploma in Tax Law from Universidad Panamericana and a Diploma in the Legal Framework of Foreign Trade from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
He has extensive experience advising companies of all sizes and across various industries on the development of comprehensive import and export compliance programs. Rogelio partners with clients to promote effective cross-functional communication, ensuring compliance with import/export regulations, export controls, and supply chain security in accordance with the principles of the World Customs Organization (WCO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and international agreements such as the Wassenaar Arrangement.
His areas of expertise include customs valuation, tariff classification, country of origin determinations, marking requirements, administrative rulings, protest proceedings, and advising on “reasonable care” obligations. He also provides strategic guidance on duty preference programs and Free Trade Agreement compliance, including NAFTA and various bilateral and multilateral treaties. Rogelio regularly conducts internal audits to assess and strengthen trade compliance and represents clients in customs litigation when necessary.
Rogelio currently serves as of counsel to the international law firm Wöss & Partners in its Mexico City office, focusing on customs and international trade matters. For several years, he has been Managing Partner of the boutique firm CRUZ VERNET / Trade & Customs Law and served as Managing Director for Latin America at Trusted Trade Alliance LLP.
Mr. Cruz Vernet is a frequent speaker at international trade and customs conferences in Mexico, the United States, Belgium, Argentina, and Turkey. He has also lectured at the University of Münster in Germany as part of a master’s program for African customs officials and has developed an extensive international network of customs law professionals. He has participated in webinars hosted by the American Association of Importers and Exporters (AAEI), among other institutions.
Mr. Cruz Vernet is a native Spanish speaker and fluent in English.
